The Technical Officer has responsibility for providing technical training to and supporting the nationally recognised Club officials who are members of the Association.
The main role of the Technical Officer is to provide training and direction for members of the Association wishing to be appointed as Controllers. Specific tasks include:

to lead training courses for Members wishing to be appointed as Controllers or supporting Clubs wishing to provide such courses

to advise Members on the requirements to be appointed as Level A, B or C Controllers

to propose potential new Controllers or those wishing to be upgraded to the SCOA Committee

to inform British Orienteering of the appointment of Level B and C Controllers and submit applications from any wishing to be appointed as Level A controllers

to lead workshops for members wishing to obtain the Event Safety Qualification or supporting Clubs wishing to provide such workshops
Desirable skills and qualities for the post are:

knowledge of the British Orienteering Rules and Appendices relating to the appointment of Controllers

knowledge of the requirements (knowledge and experience) for those wishing to be appointed as Controllers

knowledge of the content of the Event Safety Workshop

good interpersonal and communication skills
