SCOA / SEOA Controllers Courses 2008

SCOA and SEOA will be holding both a Grade 3 and a Grade 2 controllers course on Sunday 20 July 2008.

The courses are open to any BOF member, but priority will be given to SCOA and SEOA members in case of oversubscription. The 1 day courses are expected to be held at Longmoor Camp, off the A3 on the SEOA/SCOA border and will be presented by Katy Stubbs (SCOA) and Neil Crickmore (SEOA). They will consist of oral presentations/discussion and a practical exercise.

Katy Stubbs is planning to hold a one day course for novice organisers, aimed at putting on an event at District level.

This is open to anyone in SCOA who wishes to attend and there will be no charge for the course. This will follow the BOF curriculum and will be held at Katy's house (in Winnersh, between Reading and Wokingham). The date has been arranged to target an event in October. A further such event will be held at a later date for those who cannot atted the first.

We are delighted to welcome Sarum Orienteering Club to SCOA.

In future, Sarum members will be able to choose to affiliate to British Orienteering through either South Central or South West Orienteering Associations.  Sarum covers the south west tip of Hampshire and south Wiltshire.  Many of their members do their orienteering in South Central and their juniors frequently train already with our Junior Squad.  This strong club can only enhance SCOA and is particularly welcome as we gear up to organise the British Championships in the New Forest in 2009.

The SCOA AGM will be held on Thursday 14 June 2007 at the Pavilion, Worthy
Down, Winchester, SO21 2RG. The AGM will be followed by a short Committee
meeting.

This year we will be joined by Neil Cameron, BOF Chairman, and Mike
Hamilton, BOF Chief Executive. The evening will commence at 7.30 pm sharp
with a short talk by Neil Cameron on current issues and activities at
national level. This will be followed by a session to discuss what has been
covered and/or answer questions and discuss other issues that those present
wish to raise. At their request, we have allocated the first hour of the
evening to this session. This is your opportunity to learn first-hand about
their ambitions for British Orienteering and the issues affecting National
Office. Given the range of topics that may be raised, it would be helpful
to Neil & Mike to get some idea of the topics beforehand so that they may
bring the relevant information. If you let me know by WEDNESDAY 30 MAY what
topics interest you, I will forward this information to Neil and Mike with
the AGM papers.
