Displaying a picture held on the Flickr photo-sharing web site

Many people, including several prominent UK orienteering photographers, hold and show pictures on Flickr, the popular image hosting web site. There is a special way of displaying pictures held on Flickr, since Flickr's Terms of Service include the provision that all images shown from Flickr must refer back to Flickr.

You can add an image from Flickr by determining it's unique picture number. To find this, display the picture you want on Flickr. Look at the address bar above the picture - it will be something like

In this example, the unique picture number is 16172620605

Then in the place on the page where you want to place the picture, write the text

replacing picture-number with the Flickr picture number you determined earlier.

The picture will not be displayed while you are editing the page, but it will be displayed when you have finished editing the page. When you re-edit the page, you can change the string as required.

There are many options for determining the size and placement of the picture that is displayed, and many other ways of displaying multiplepictures. There is help text below the editing field giving a brief summary of the options available.

For a fuller explanation of how to display and place pictures from flickr see The Flickr Editor Guide.
