Possible Changes to the SCOA League

Introduction

The main reason for establishing the SCOA League was to encourage people to attend more events. It is debatable how well this is actually being achieved in practice.

SCOA Junior Squad Half Term Event - Wednesday 29th October

The SCOA Junior Squad are organising an event on Wednesday 29 October at Chawton Park Wood near Alton. This forms part of the military mid-week league but the event is open to everyone. 5 courses will be available (Brown, Blue, Light Green, Red and Yellow) at the bargain price of £2 (plus £1 emit card hire if needed).


Normal facilities will be available plus Ultrasport and a burger van, so you don't even need to bring a packed lunch. This is half-term week in a lot of areas so come along to support the Junior Squad and get some mid-week orienteering.

SCOA League 2007-08 Final Results

The 2007-2008 SCOA League Season Final Scores are now available.  Congratulations to all the winners who will receive an individually hand-crafted mug to commemorate their win.  The prizes will be presented at 1 pm at SOC's Redshoot event on Sunday 7 November which is also the first League event of the 2008-2009 season.

The SOC event is also providing free coaching exercises either before or after your run.  Try the short exercises in Pacing, Aiming Off or Window Orienteering to enhance your orienteering skills.  See the Southampton Orienteering Club website for details of the event and free coaching.

British Schools Orienteering Championships - 16th November 2008 - Hawley & Hornley Commons

Berkshire Orienteers, in conjunction with Southern Navigators and the British Army Orienteering Club, is organising the British Schools Championships weekend on 15th/16th November 2008, the Championship being held at Hawley and Hornley Commons.

Controller's Course - Sunday 20th July 2008

SCOA / SEOA Controllers Courses 2008

SCOA and SEOA will be holding both a Grade 3 and a Grade 2 controllers course on Sunday 20 July 2008.

The courses are open to any BOF member, but priority will be given to SCOA and SEOA members in case of oversubscription. The 1 day courses are expected to be held at Longmoor Camp, off the A3 on the SEOA/SCOA border and will be presented by Katy Stubbs (SCOA) and Neil Crickmore (SEOA). They will consist of oral presentations/discussion and a practical exercise.

Organiser's Course - 27th July 2008

Katy Stubbs is planning to hold a one day course for novice organisers, aimed at putting on an event at District level.

This is open to anyone in SCOA who wishes to attend and there will be no charge for the course. This will follow the BOF curriculum and will be held at Katy's house (in Winnersh, between Reading and Wokingham). The date has been arranged to target an event in October. A further such event will be held at a later date for those who cannot atted the first.
